CLIPPS "Mockup" Demo
CLIPPS is based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which proposes that goals, methods, assessments, and materials provide students with multiple means for recognition, strategic interaction, and engagement. Central to the concept of UDL is the notion of scaffolds, individualized and adjustable options for supporting students challenges that would otherwise interfere with learning.
To illustrate the CLIPPS concept, we have created a demo based upon a diverse set of content "chunks" for teaching photosynthesis to sixth grade students. We have defined three exemplar students -- Brian, Alita & Sasha -- representative of the diverse cognitive and linguistic skills and challenges common in inclusive classrooms. Based on the individual learning requirements of these three students, particular content chunks have been selected, sequenced, and presented (rendered) to best support students in learning the core concepts of photosynthesis. The selection, sequencing, and presentation (rendering) represents a range of the UDL-based scaffolds, supports, and options available for students.
